The Minnesota Fast Draw Club is made up of individuals that love the sport of Fast Draw.  We shoot out of a traditional holster or a FD7 holster.  Fast Draw is a safe, fun and addicting sport.  We welcome you to come and try it.  Please contact us at: Clint@mnfastdraw.com or call 763-772-4152.

It’s a family sport.
The best part of fast draw is that it is a family sport.  The entire family can shoot.  Traveling to contests are like mini vacations, often you can travel to historical locations, like Deadwood, SD or Durango, CO.

What is Fast Draw?
Fast Draw is drawing a single action 45 revolver out of a western style holster as fast as you can and hitting the target.

The Guns

  The Holsters

 Ammo

For safety purposes, only wax bullets and blanks are used.  No live ammo is ever used.

For this reason, Fast Draw is a spectator sport.  Fast Draw can be held anywhere due to the Backstops that are provided, which add to the safety from the blanks and wax bullets.

Blanks
Blanks are made with 4F black powder as a kicker and 1F black powder is used to break the balloon.  These are a favorite among shooters because of the noise and smoke.

Wax
These bullets are made of wax and either break on contact with the target or mushroom out.  They are propelled by a 209 shotgun primer or a pistol primer.  The 45 long cases are drilled out for the shotgun primers.  The wax bullet is the quieter of the two types of ammo.

 Targets
All Fast Draw targets have a light on them for a visual start.  After the commands are given from the clock operator; “Shooters on the line,” and “Shooters Set,” after the command “set” the shooter releases their hand from the gun and waits for the light.  The light ranges from 2 to 5 seconds.  Once the light comes on, the shooter draws and fires on the target.

There are two types of targets.  Wax targets, which have a sound pickup on the back and when the wax bullet hits the target the time stops.

Balloon targets have a micro switch and when the balloon breaks from the blank the time stops.
